National Day of Silence in April each year is a student-led movement to protest bullying and harassment of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender LGBT students and those who support them.

The Day of Silence brings awareness and illustrates to the schools and the colleges how intimidation, name-calling, and general bullying have a silencing effect. Participating students take a day-long vow of silence. Bullying and harassment come in several forms. It is a day in which students participate by being silent throughout the day to show their support and recognition for LGBT lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people, but can also be used as a day to recognize anyone that is silenced.

Anyone can organize an activity or event, and it can be a powerful way to join together and take a stand and make your voice heard. Many communities are silenced each day, by : anti-LGBT name-calling, bullying , harassment , discriminatory state laws and among many other forms of silencing. This is an excellent way to promote awareness and discussion of this issue.

This is a movement almost anyone can experience, no picket signs required. Starting in on just one college campus, the movement has spread to over 10, institutions.
