There does not seem to be any repercussions one way or the other - he'll fight with if you keep him, usually conjuring flame atronachs, but it can be a challenge to keep him from getting killed. At the same time there doesn't seem to be any penalty if he does get killed. There is also no end-of-quest reward or advantage to having brought him with you.

Plus you can save on your own so there's no reason for tha t :p. You have to go into the b oss "The Caller" And all 3 of the books will be in that room. Beating her is the hard part. What a piss poor hack job , this 'guide' So I entered through the open door into the watery cave , went past the locked up vampires, then into the room with Orthorn. Freed him, opened up all caves, but wher the guide says '' open the wooden door a nd Why the fuck would people look up thi s guide if it weren't for the key? The rest is really sta ndard and doesnt require a guide to play, these lo sers omit the only thing that is challenging. The locked o ne is upstairs and you'll not get the key until yo u've been right through. You should apologise. After I get the books I g o to the college and get attacked by everyone, why?!
You probably began an fig ht with them before begin ning the quest. When you return they still want t o fight you.
